Big Carlos Zambrano has struggled a bit over his last 4 starts giving up 21 earned runs in 21 2/3rd innings pitched. Moyer has been good on the road this season as he sits with an ERA of 2.79 in 13 starts away from home. The Phillies beat Zambrano this season as the big right-hander gave up 5 runs and 9 hits over 6 innings. Take the underdog here.
Your Best Bet for Sunday is playing the Philadelphia Phillies at +160 against the Chicago Cubs.
Tony T here from Gamblers Television covering the NFL “Vegas Style” all season long.
The Indianapolis Colts were Super Bowl winners in 2006 and finished the 2007 regular season with a 13-3 record and were champions of the AFC South. The Colts hosted the San Diego Chargers in the AFC Divisional round of the playoffs and lost 28-24 as a 10-½ point favorite. Oddsmakers have set the 2008 regular season projected win total for the Indianapolis Colts at 11 wins.
Schedule:
The Colts play in the AFC South and that means 2 games against Jacksonville, Houston and Tennessee. The AFC South plays the AFC North and NFC North and that brings road games at Minnesota and Pittsburgh. As the AFC South champion last season they must play the two other first place AFC teams and that brings a road game at San Diego and they host New England.
Offense:
Peyton Manning went through off-season knee surgery to repair an infected bursa sac on his left knee. It forced the veteran QB to miss the entire preseason. He went through his pre game routine in week 4 of the preseason and Tony Dungy was confident in having his Pro Bowl quarterback ready to open the season. Manning reads opposing defenses as good as any quarterback who ever played in the NFL. With 11 seasons under his belt he is fully confident in his system and with his offensive personnel. Joseph Addai returns to the backfield after gaining over 1000 yards last season and running back Dominic Rhodes returns to the Colts and a system he is very familiar with. He averaged 4 yards per carry last year for the Raiders. The receiving corps is very solid with Marvin Harrison looking good in training camp. Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez compliment a strong unit. Tight end Dallas Clark is coming off a season with career high 58 receptions, which help inked him to a deal making him the highest paid tight end in the league.
Defense:
The defensive line will put even more pressure on the quarterback this season with a healthy Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis on opposite ends. The Colts have depth behind their front four to give them blows. The linebackers are young and promising. In the secondary Bob Saunders is returning from NFL Defensive Player of the year honors and safety Antoine Bethea is coming off a Pro Bowl season. Kelvin Hayden and Marlin Jackson are both strong and physical cover corners.
And now to my Selection:
The Colts were hit hard by injuries to impact players in 2007 as defensive ends Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis were hurt as well as wide receiver Marvin Harrison. The Colts were still able to pull out a 13-3 season. Much of the same players surround Peyton Manning on offense from a year ago. The running game will be better with Dominic Rhodes back in a Colts uniform. The offensive line will have new pieces but still should be able to protect Manning. The Colts will get to at least 12 wins this season.
Play the Indianapolis Colts over 11 wins for the 2008 season.
Selection: Play wins in 2008 Regular Season.

College Football Saturday Alabama vs Clemson (-5) (5PM ET) (ABC)
Alabama and Clemson will meet Saturday on a neutral field as they are playing in the Georgia Dome. The Crimson Tide struggled down the stretch losing their last 4 regular season games including a horrible loss to Louisiana Monroe. Alabama is young and has 10 freshmen that could see significant action in this game including two of them in the wide receiver position. You also have to factor in the dome as many of these young freshmen probably never played a football game inside a dome. Clemson has the experience with 9 seniors and quarterback Cullen Harper who is being regarded as an NFL prospect. Harper passed for just under 3000 yards last season. The team also returns 7 starters on defense and one of the nations best secondaries. Behind quarterback Harper is senior running back James Davis who rushed for over 1000 yards and back C.J. Spiller who rushed for 768 yards. There are 2 seniors starting at wide receiver led by 6’5” Aaron Kelly who caught 88 passes for over 1000 yards and 11 TD’s. Tyler Grisham contributed with 60 catches for 653 yards. Clemson is getting Alabama at the right time here, as the Tide will improve off this effort and experience. Too much experience at the playmaking positions for the Tigers. Play Clemson –5.

College Football USC Trojans at Virginia Cavaliers (+19) (3:30PM ET) (ABC)
Quarterback Mark Sanchez will most likely start for the Trojans in their season opener against Virginia. Sanchez as the team’s backup last season saw action in starts against Oregon and Notre Dame on the road and at home to Arizona. But what I believe is just as important is the fact that all 4 of USC’s talented tailbacks are now healthy and USC got out of training camp overall in good health on defense as well for the season opener. Virginia returns only 11 starters from a year ago and was undecided at quarterback as the team breaks in a new starter under center. I believe the Cavaliers will have trouble getting pressure on Sanchez due to graduation and when given time like we saw last year at Notre Dame Sanchez can deliver. Also factor in the fresh legs for the Trojans on the ground that can go at Virginia fresh for 4 quarters. With USC so strong on the ground out of the gate it will open plenty of big plays off play action for the USC offense. The Trojan linebackers are solid and the defense is always good under Pete Carroll. Virginia has started slowly out of the gates the past two years losing by 20 or more points each time. USC steamrolls here. Take the USC Trojans –19.

College Football Saturday Utah Utes @ Michigan Wolverines (-3) (3:30PM ET) (ABC)
The Rich Rodriguez era begins at Michigan as they host the Utah Utes with Michigan only a 3-point favorite. Yes Utah returns a senior quarterback and plenty of starters on offense but they did lose 3 road games last year to Oregon St, UNLV and BYU and gave up 32 points to Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl. Other than BYU the Mountain West Conference was terrible last year. Michigan is a program that promotes many players into the NFL and constantly competes for a Rose Bowl berth. Michigan returns 7 starters on defense that played well late last season. Heck they only gave up 14 points to Ohio St. I think the bigger question here is how will the Utah defense handle the spread offense? Navy run up and down this club in their bowl game last year. I like the fact that there has been a fierce competition at quarterback and at running back for Michigan. The competitive practices will translate to effectiveness come game time. Take Michigan –3.
Ricky Nolasco has pitched well for the Marlins giving up 3 earned runs or less over his last 6 starts. He has pitched well in 3 starts against the Mets this season. The Marlins have hit Pelfrey as they have scored 15 earned runs and 21 hits in 3 games against the Mets right-hander in 12 2/3rd innings. Pelfrey is 0-3 against the fish this season.
Your Best Bet for Saturday Major League Baseball is playing the Florida Marlins at –125 against the NY Mets.

The San Diego Chargers travel to San Francisco for a preseason game on Friday with the 49’ers a 2 point favorite. The Chargers will rest their starters and when they did this against the St Louis Rams they did not fare well. Also the Chargers are playing this game with 3 days rest off their Monday Night game against Seattle. You also have to factor the travel here for the Chargers and expect San Diego to bring nothing here. Take San Francisco –2.

The Denver Broncos travel to Arizona for a preseason game on Friday with the Cardinals a 2 ½ point favorite. There is a quarterback controversy at Arizona with Matt Leinart and Kurt Warner battling for the #1 position. Kurt Warner has been announced as the starter with Leinart backing up. Expect the Arizona offense to be fully focused here to support the Cardinal’s QB’s behind center. There was a report that the Broncos starters wont play on Friday. This one is easy. Arizona will give their starting quarterbacks full support to try and win the starters job while Denver will field backups. Take Arizona –2 ½.

Best Bet Major League Baseball Friday LA Dodgers (Kuroda) at Arizona (Davis) (9:40PM ET) (MLB PPV)
A big series in the NL West as the LA Dodgers and Arizona Diamonbacks meet in a battle between the top 2 teams from this weak division. In 13 starts on the road Kuroda is 2-7 with an ERA at 4 ½. Kuroda has gotten hit at Chase Field giving up 7 earned runs and 17 hits in just 7 2/3rd innings pitched in two starts. LA has hit D’back starter Doug Davis. The left-hander has given up 11 earned run, 7 walks and 17 hits in just 10 2/3rd innings against the Dodgers this season. Bet on hitting here.
Your Best Bet for Friday is playing the Arizona Diamondbacks and LA Dodgers over 9 runs.

College Football Thursday Oregon St Beavers at Stanford Cardinal (+3) (6PM ET) (ESPN 2)
Oregon St travels to Palo Alto to kick off the season with a Pac 10 Conference game with Stanford. Stanford gets Oregon St here at the right time. The Beavers are replacing their entire front 7 on defense. Oregon St usually starts slow and especially on the road. The Beavers are 0-6 straight up in their first road game in Mike Reilly’s last 6 seasons as head coach. Junior quarterback Lyle Moevao gets the start with Sean Canfield backing him up and hopefully their revamped offensive line can give them blocking. These two QB’s combined to lead the Pac 10 in interceptions the last season. The running back position is very inexperienced for the Beavers with two freshmen and a transfer in the backfield. Stanford beat USC and Cal last season and look for head coach Jim Harbaugh to have his Cardinal team sky high for this national TV appearance, which will help the program for recruiting purposes. Stanford needs this win with a road game at Arizona St and at TCU up next for Stanford. Take Stanford +3
