On Saturday night, with the Squatters and Diamondbacks locked in a scoreless tie, Manny Ramirez came to the plate with runners on first and third and two outs. If there was ever a no brainer, this was it….

Since Ramirez has been tearing up the National League, Arizona manager Bob Melvin should have been holding up four fingers before Manny left the on deck circle. Hell, I would have walked him before the inning started….

Predictably, Manny hit a three-run bomb and Brooklyn wound up sweeping the series and taking control of the NL West….

If this doesn’t get Melvin fored, I don’t know what will….

The day the Squatters traded for ManRam, I predicted they’d go to the World Series. My reasons for this prediction were two fold: 1) Allowing Ramirez to hit in the inferior National League was like Kobe Bryant playing in the CBA. 2) National League managers would be too stupid to walk him….

    Bingo on both counts….

The stupidity of people supposedly at the top of their professions never ceases to amaze me….

Still can’t believe the finish of the BYU-Washington game, where the officials ruined an excellent performance by the Huskies and might have cost them the game….

With two seconds remaining, UW QB Jake Locker scrambled into the end zone for what appeared to be the game tying TD. The score cut the BYU lead to 28-27 and all the Huskies needed was the extra point to send the game into OT….

After Locker dove into the end zone, he leaped to his feet, tossed the ball behind his head and celebrated with his teammates. There was no taunting, no dancing, no spiking and nothing remotely inappropriate; yet an a**-hole official threw a flag for “celebration” and UW now faced a 35-yard extra point to send the game into OT….

As they lined up for the PAT, I knew there was no chance. Whenever a group of officials decide to screw someone, it seems disaster follows….

Sure enough, the kick was blocked and BYU escaped with the win….

Would the Huskies have won the game in OT? We’ll never know, but that official should never officiate another game….

The self righteous, smug, set-in-their-ways, neanderthal NCAA also needs to immediately throw out the celebration rule. From now on, a flag should only be thrown when a player taunts the other team. Change the rule from “celebration” to “taunting” and you’ve solved the problem….

Too late for Ty Willingham, but maybe some team in the future won’t get screwed….

Forced myself to watch some NFL games this weekend and came to the following conclusions:

-Brett Favre is going to lead the Jets to 10 wins and a playoff slot.

-Norv Turner still can’t coach and the Chargers are really going to miss Michael Turner.

-The Rams have an excellent shot at going 0-16.

-My 49ers are awful and Mike Nolan will be looking for a job after the season. I know Mike Martz is an offensive genius, but there’s not much he can do with this group of stiffs. Martz is the heir apparent to Nolan, but hopefully the Niners keep him as the offensive coordinator and hire another head coach. Martz is the worst sideline decision maked I’ve ever seen.

I’ve been saying for years that the US Open Men’s Final should be played on a Monday night, so they could attract maximum audience and give the sport a much needed boost. Yes, the Roger Federer-Andy Murray final is today at 2pm, but only because bad weather forced postponement of some matches over the weekend….

Still, going up against Monday Night Football would be foolish, so here’s what they need to do: Move the tournament up a week, so the men’s final is played on the Monday before the NFL season begins….

Why play the final on a Sunday, when you have to go up agaonst the opening weekend of the NFL; or on a Monday when the NFL is also kicking off? Simply move the event up a week and maximize the ratings….

    Makes too much sense….

The more I see Alaska Governor and Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin, the more I like her. Not only is she attractive, her speech at the RNC last week was magnificent….

Since she’s smart, strong, self made, a mother, opinionated and has a history of taking on people from her own party, you’d think she’d be the darling of feminists….

Instead, both the feminists and media have launched into the most hateful, vicious personal attacks I’ve ever seen….

The one positive is groups like NOW have been exposed as the hypocritical opportunists they’ve always been. They claim to be on the forefront of women’s rights and praise strong, independant women; but in this case they’ve shown they only support females who spout the party line and agree with them….

They don’t care about women, they care about pushing their agenda….

Reminds me of the way the feminists and civil rights groups behaved when Condileeza Rice was viciously attacked on the Opie and Anthony Show. The two of them were involved in a bit where a guest made jokes about Rice being beaten and raped, with laughs all around….

Two white men make jokes about a black woman being abused and not one civil rights leader or feminist group utters a word of protest? I thought they were all about standing up for women and black people….

Once again, the civil rights groups and feminists will only stand up for the abused IF they agree with them politically. Otherwise, they couldn’t care less….

Arte—The Grinch That Stole Angel Christmas Back in 1986, the Angels were one out away from going to their first ever World Series, ending years of mediocrity and suffering, but then, oh we all know what happened. The team went into a deep funk, only seeming to rise from the ashes in 1995, where they built a [...]

A couple of months ago when Oscar De la Hoya signed up to fight Manny Pacquiao, I wrote in my column that De La Hoya would rue the day he signed up. I went into detail how Manny would embarrass him and maybe even stop him. Then I watched HBO’s installments of the “24/7” series [...]

I may have been a trifle hasty in joining the deafening chorus condemning Auburn’s decision to hire Caucasian Gene Chizik over African-American Turner Gill as mainly a racist one. (For the record, I “misremembered” when I wrote that Gill wasn’t even interviewed for the job. He was, in fact, given a token interview before being [...]

I know that MLB scouts are now scouring the world for athletes who may be able to be developed into baseball prospects. They’re even going to places that have never been, and never will be, hotbeds of the sport. As witness the fact that the Pittsburgh Pirates recently signed two 20-year-olds from India [...]

Gotta love that NHL. NHL players pummel each other into bloody goo, hit each other, legally, with force and malicious intent that would land them in the slammer off the ice, curse worse than sailors, construction workers, or participants in a Comedy Central roast, spit, hawk loogies, moon the fans, God knows [...]

From http://GamblersTelevision.com Pro Football AFC Wildcard Playoffs Sunday Baltimore Ravens at Miami Dolphins (+3) (1PM ET) (CBS) This is a bad matchup for the Dolphins. Chad Pennington’s lack of arm strength means he cannot stretch that Ravens pass defense and he will find things awfully tough completing balls downfield. This also allows the Ravens quick [...]
